When I joined Dictum Health they had already commissioned a logo design. They weren't totally happy with it, but the CEO didn't want to change it. The newly-hired Vice President of Marketing and the Vice President of Product convinced the CEO to let me take one more stab at it. I only had a week to come up with something. The way it worked out, I only had about three days.
The Dictum Health product was positioned for use across multiple closely-related markets, with hospitals, clinics, skilled nursing facilities, military triage, and rural healthcare as the primary focus, so I worked with the concept of "intersecting markets that blended together" with a traditional medical icon of a square cross. They didn't like the cross and wanted to keep the globe.
The only real input I had from the management team was that the CEO wanted a globe wrapped with a banner. After a few banner attempts I convinced them to drop the banner and keep the globe, but instead considering it as a shield. I worked on the branding colors with the CEO to find new "traditional medical industry" combinations that he liked. The CEO added the "D" to the center and they called it done.
